Fiber optic components manufacturer Agiltron Inc. of Wilmington, Mass., has entered into a licensing agreement with Oluma Inc. of Carlsbad, Calif., for a variable optical attenuator based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). It has hired two former Oluma engineers and has acquired the company's assets, inventory and tooling related to production of the devices. The technology includes a low-cost Telcordia-qualified attenuator to complement Agiltron's all-solid-state line.
