BURLINGTON, Mass., Sept. 9 -- Actuality Systems Inc., a maker of spatial 3-D visualization technology, announced it has completed its latest funding round with participation from Hoya Corp. of Tokyo, Navigator Technology Ventures of Cambridge and a group of private investors. The total value of the round was $6.2 million.
The company said the participation of Hoya Corp., a Japanese producer of optical products, represents a strategic investment, sales and technology partnership between them.
Actuality Systems develops, produces, sells and licenses the Perspecta 3-D System. The systems includes the Perspecta spatial display, which projects 3-D imagery inside a 20-inch transparent dome, and software.
Typical applications for Perspecta include real-time interventional medical guidance (such as biopsy or catheter localization), surgical planning, work group collaboration, registration and visualization of CT, MRI, 3-D ultrasound and PET scans; battlespace visualization; air-traffic control; 3-D games; and freight/luggage screening.
Other major investors in the company include Rob Ryan, who founded Ascend Communications; Bob Gelfond, founder and CEO of MagiQ Technologies and "angel" investor in Amazon.com; and individuals associated with Smedvig Capital of London.
