AOptix, Unisys Team Up for Biometrics

CAMPBELL, Calif., July 18, 2012 — Information technology company Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., has become a strategic alliance partner of AOptix Technologies Inc. for delivery of face capture and iris recognition systems for biometrics applications.

Unisys will offer AOptix InSight iris recognition and face capture systems to its customers that use biometrics for identity verification, national border management and aviation security. Unisys will integrate the technology into its LEIDA (Library of eID Artifacts software) framework, which creates building blocks for identity and credentialing solutions to accelerate development and reduce implementation time, said Terry Hartmann, vice president for global security solutions at Unisys.

AOptix iris recognition solutions process tens of thousands of biometric transactions daily. The technology is used for aviation security at major airports such as London’s Gatwick, and for immigration control such as all the air, land and sea border crossings in the State of Qatar.

“From national identity programs to busy aviation checkpoints, our InSight systems are well suited for high-throughput, high-volume deployments where ease of use is critical — especially when language barriers are present,” said Dale Bastian, vice president of sales at AOptix. “Subjects of all heights simply stand in the large capture zone, look at the system, and we do the rest in seconds.”

Glossary
biometrics
Biometrics refers to the automated recognition of individuals based on their physiological or behavioral characteristics. These unique attributes are used to verify or identify individuals, often in the context of security, access control, or authentication systems. Biometric systems capture, process, and analyze biometric data to accurately identify or verify the identity of an individual. Key characteristics and features of biometrics include: Physiological characteristics:...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
