VALENCIA, Calif., Oct. 10 -- 3D Systems Corp. and racing team European Minardi F1 announced they have entered into an alliance that will see the team using 3D Systems' stereolithography and, in the future, selective laser sintering technologies to assist with wind tunnel modeling, rapid prototyping and the production of vehicle componentry.
European Minardi F1 will integrate the solid imaging technology into its computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and rapid modeling for the wind tunnel, which will dramatically reduce the production time of a range of components and significantly improve data security.
"We're delighted to launch this alliance with European Minardi F1," said John Murray, 3D Systems' senior director of business development for motorsports. "Strategically, it represents European Minardi's commitment to closing the technical gap to its rivals. By using our technology, the team can take a process that formerly required weeks to complete and reduce it to days.
