NASA Inventions Honored
Two technologies developed by
NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., were inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame at the National Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colo., April 12. The Video Image Stabilization and Registration and the Data Matrix Symbology techniques were recognized for their contributions to both space and commercial applications.
Video Image Stabilization and Registration is an image-correction software technique that reduces the effects of camera jitter, rotation and zoom, and has been implemented in video systems for law enforcement and security applications.
Data Matrix Symbology, which the researchers developed for tracking parts in the space shuttle program, is an improvement on bar-code technology. It uses two-dimensional symbols that contain 100 times more information than a bar code and that are read with a CCD.
