Diamond and Gem Solutions Leader Sarine Technologies to Acquire Kitov.ai

Sarine Technologies, a developer and provider of technology solutions for the evaluation, planning, processing, and measurement of diamonds and gems, has announced its intent to purchase Kitov.ai. The visual inspection software platform developer, whose solutions target industrial applications, is the developer of the 2022 Vision Award-winning CAD2SCAN software solution.

The CAD2SCAN solution obtains all available information from a CAD, including geometric and component specifications and specific inspection requirements, to plan robot inspection. Captured information includes the best 3D camera and illumination directions for each inspection and the optimal robot path.

'Kitov.AI’s unique advantage is its application of AI to the process of defining the inspection process, Sarine Technologies said in a press release. "Rather than manually defining the process sometimes by physically leading the robot from point to point, the engineer simply indicates on the inspected part’s CAD file the points to be inspected and the criteria to be tested, and the system does all the rest autonomously. This cuts the implementation time significantly.

"Moreover, the system’s AI is designed to assist in recognizing a design flaw in the part, by collating repetitive flaws associated with the same inspected point."

Kitov.ai has recently been reincorporated following a restructuring due to insolvency issues. The new company retains its founders and core R&D team and has redirected its strategy from selling complete tailored solutions to each customer, including robots and other incidental equipment, to selling only Kitov.ai's core competencies, pivoting to a software-license centered recurring revenue model. The company is also exploring cooperation with other businesses in the quality assurance/quality control field by offering solutions based on conjoining two products' benefits co-mounted on the same robot, Sarine said.

Sarine aims to make the company profitable by next year, and said that it envisions the all-cash acquisition as a means of diversifying into fields beyond the diamond industry. Kitov.ai's solutions, Sarine said, uses similar technologies including optical inspection, artificial intelligence, and software; according to Sarine, Kitov.ai founder Joseph Rubner’s company, RTC Vision, from which Kitov.ai was spun out, executed the image processing development work on Sarine’s Galaxy systems and Clarity grading system.
