Fraunhofer IAP-Notion Systems Partnership Targets Development of Display Materials

The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP (Fraunhofer IAP) and Notion Systems GmbH, a manufacturer of inkjet equipment for deliverables including printed electronics, 3D printing, and printed circuit boards, have established a strategic partnership to further develop electrohydrodynamic printing for display technologies and new applications.

Per the collaboration, the partners are targeting technologies that support production of high-precision and functional materials. Initial joint projects will focus on the development of new printing materials and the optimization of printing processes in the field of OLED/QLED printing. The aim, according to the partners, is to further improve the technology for industrial display applications and open new markets.

Electrohydrodynamic printing uses electric fields to precisely transfer inks or other liquids onto substrates. In contrast to conventional printing methods, the method enables the creation of fine droplets, resulting in higher resolution and accuracy. This technology is particularly useful for applications in electronics, biomedicine, and materials science, because it enables the production of microstructures.
