EVOSYS Subsidiaries Move Locations; Aeluma Wins Second Navy Award: Week in Brief: 12/1/23

Aeluma Inc., a semiconductor company specializing in lidar, communication, and sensing, received funding from the U.S. Navy to develop high-speed photodetectors for defense and aerospace communication applications. This the second award Aeluma received recently from the Navy, following an early-November award for the development of photonics reliability methodologies.

ERLANGEN, Germany — The subsidiaries of laser welding systems manufacturer EVOSYS — Evosys North America Corp. and Evosys Laser Services GmbH — relocated to new premises to provide more space for manufacturing and employees. The North American subsidiary moved to Rochester Hills, Mich. Evosys Laser Services GmbH moved off the premises of the parent company and remains in Erlangen, Germany.

TORONTO — Optical fiber company CeramOptic opened a location in Toronto. The opening aims to strengthen the company’s ties with its North American customers, while reducing response times for product solutions.

PARIS — Outsight, a specialist in 3D spatial intelligence, and Innovusion, a provider of lidar solutions, partnered to combine Outsight’s software platform with Innovusion’s products. The companies are looking to create the basis for the deployment of 3D perception technologies at a large scale.

HAIFA, Israel — Elbit Systems Ltd. was awarded a contract by Airbus Defense and Space to supply its direct infrared countermeasures and infrared missile warning systems for installation on the MRTT A330 refueling aircraft for Canada. The contract will be performed over a period of five years. In a separate development, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that Elbit Systems’ U.S. subsidiary, Elbit Systems of America–Night Vision LLC, received an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract with a maximum of $500 million for the supply of squad binocular night-vision goggle systems, spare and repair parts, contractor logistics support, and test article refurbishment. According to Bezhalel Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems, the contract, which follows previous orders, supports Elbit’s role in product development for the U.S. Marine Corps.

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Conductive Containers Inc. (CCI), a provider of static control packaging for electronics, high-value components, and optics, acquired Crestline Plastics Inc., an Albuquerque, N.M.-based company that supplies over 200 customers, including Fortune 500 accounts, with packaging and material handling solutions for precision glass, lenses, laser optics, image capture devices, and other delicate components. Derek Hermann will continue with CCI as general manager of the Crestline division. All Crestline employees joined the CCI team.

DRESDEN, Germany — Organic photovoltaics provider Heliatek entered into an exclusive partnership with liquid waterproofing developer Triflex to offer a full-system solution for a waterproof roof created with Heliatek’s HeliaSol solar films. According to the partners, customers will benefit from a jointly tested solution to securely seal their roofs, extending their lifetimes while simultaneously producing solar power.

SINGAPORE — Nanofilm Technologies International (NTI) partnered with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to establish the NTI-NTU Corporate Laboratory, created to support the innovation of deep-tech solutions. The laboratory will focus on four main areas: coating equipment, advanced materials, nanofabrication, and hydrogen energy.

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Test Research Inc. (TRI), a provider of test and inspection systems for the electronics manufacturing industry, expanded its Malaysian office. The company expects that that the expansion will enable it to better serve the region’s client needs and to strengthen its presence in the country and region.

ATLANTA — Industrial technology company Acuity Brands reached an agreement to acquire the Arize family of horticulture lighting products from Current Lighting Solutions LLC. The company also reached an agreement with Hort Americas LLC for it to remain as the exclusive distributor of these horticulture lighting products throughout North America. The transaction with Current Lighting is expected to close by the end of next month. The Hort Americas agreement will go into effect upon the closing of the transaction with Current.
