JDS Uniphase’s Kalkhoven Retires
Kevin Kalkhoven of
JDS Uniphase Corp. of Nepean, Ontario, Canada, and San Jose, Calif., has retired from his position as CEO and co-chairman of the board of directors. Kalkhoven, who is succeeded as CEO by co-chairman, president and chief operating officer Jozef Straus, will remain as an adviser on strategic matters through the end of the 2001 fiscal year.
Charles J. Abbe, the former CEO of
Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. of Santa Rosa, Calif., which the company acquired in February, has been appointed president and chief operating officer.
Kalkhoven joined Uniphase Corp. in 1992 as president and CEO, and oversaw its merger with JDS Fitel Inc. in July 1999. Following the announcement, he expressed the intent to sell 230,000 shares of JDS Uniphase common stock, valued at nearly $20 million, in a Form 144 filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
