Iris Recognition Moves to Airport
EyeTicket Corp. of McLean, Va., unveiled an evaluation program of its EyePass iris-recognition system in restricted areas at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, N.C. EyePass confirms the identity and security clearance of employees by measuring the patterns on their irises.
The technology, which the company licenses from
IriScan Inc. of Marlton, N.J., operates on the principle that the random tears that form in the iris after birth remain stable over a person's lifetime. The probability that two people, including identical twins, will share the same pattern is approximately 1 in 10
78. The system has an accuracy of 1 in 1.2 million.
