Hübner Acquires Cobolt, Expanding Test and Measurement, Process Control Business

The Hübner Group has acquired Cobolt AB, a supplier of lasers for analytical instrumentation applications based in Stockholm.

Financial terms of the sale, which was completed Dec. 4, were not disclosed.

Cobolt develops, manufactures and supplies diode-pumped and direct-diode laser modules in the UV-VIS, near-infrared and mid-infrared spectral ranges. The company's laser products are built on wavelength-flexible, power-scalable technology platforms for use in OEM and scientific applications in the markets of analytical instrumentation, test and measurement, and in-line process control.

Cobolt's proprietary HT Cure technology for laser manufacturing prepares lasers for use in demanding industrial environments.

"Bundling our competences with those of Cobolt leverages both capabilities," said Ingolf Cedra, a member of the corporate board of management of Hübner Holding GmbH. "Cobolt is a dynamic and very innovative company. Their development in the past 15 years — from a university spinoff to a well-established supplier with one of the market's broadest ranges of powerful, small and reliable single-frequency lasers — impresses me a lot. Cobolt fits perfectly into our growth plan and I very much look forward to our cooperation and new developments in our joint product portfolio."

The Hübner Group develops, engineers and manufactures key components for the transportation industry as well as products for medical technology, life quality, terahertz applications, photonics and high-frequency technology.
