OFS Joint Venture Opens Fiber Optic Cable Factory in Russia
OFS Fitel LLC and SviazStroy-1 have opened a new optical fiber cable factory in central Russia.
“With the extra capacity of the new factory, we can better serve the growing demands of our customers developing transcontinental telecommunications backbones,” said Michael Pavlychev, managing director of OFS in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The two companies started a joint venture in 1999, and expanded in 2007 to meet market demands. They began work on the new factory in 2012 in the Maslovski Industrial Zone of Voronezh, which is about 320 miles south of Moscow.
OFS SviazStroy-1 Fiber Optic Cable Co. specializes in the development and production of fiber optic cables for the telecommunication industry.
The majority shareholder in the joint venture, OFS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., headquartered in Norcross, Ga.
SviazStroy-1 specializes in design, construction, delivery and product installations in communications, radio, television, and computer commercial and public facilities.
