Eberly makes a three-year commitment to OSA's board of directors. As vice president, he will automatically become president-elect in 2006, then president in 2007. The new directors-at-large will hold their positions for three years.

Eberly is currently chair of the OSA board of editors and an ex-officio member of the OSA board of directors and has been a member or chair of numerous committees, including the finance, Townes Award, Wood Prize and Ives Medal committees, the society objectives and policy committee and the long-term planning group for publications. He is also a representative on the American Institute of Physics (AIP) governing board and as a member of its investment advisory committee.

Dainty is a professor of physics at the National University of Ireland, Galway. His research group works in imaging, adaptive optics and instrumentation for vision science. Delfyett is a trustee and professor of optics, electrical and computer engineering and physics at the College of Optics and Photonics and the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers at the University of Central Florida. Strickland is an associate professor of physics at the University of Waterloo, where she researches high-intensity laser physics and is co-director of a new diploma program, the Education Program for Photonics Professionals (EP3).

Eberly and the new directors-at-large, who will replace three outgoing members of the board, will be inducted on Jan. 2.
