L-3 to Provide Saudi Arabia X-ray Systems
NEW YORK, April 11 -- L-3 Communications' security and detection systems division has been awarded a contract to supply five high-energy x-ray imaging subsystems to Saudi Arabia for cargo container inspections.
The prime contract was awarded to EG&G Middle East, L-3 Security and Detection Systems' cargo x-ray distributor in the Middle East, by the Customs Authority of Saudi Arabia. It covers systems design, construction, installation, testing and training. Delivery will begin in early 2004.
The high-energy 9MeV imaging systems, which are designed to inspect International Organization for Standardization containers at a rate of fifty units per hour, will be installed at the eastern and western seaports of Dammam and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. They will be incorporated into a fixed-site, high-throughput cargo inspection facility that will be completed by a consortium of suppliers, including EG&G Middle East and NIS Ltd. of the UK.
