Non-linear optical (NLO) crystals provide an enormously flexible solution for generating new wavelengths from existing, off-the-shelf laser sources. This paper considers the principle of wavelength conversion and provides information on the choice of NLO crystals available to the user together with examples of real world applications using MgO;PPLN.
