Our polarization diverse receiver (PDR) operates at wavelengths 1060, 1310, or 1550 nm and mixes an incoming signal with a reference (local oscillator), thereby shifting any phase and amplitude fluctuations on the optical carrier to a carrier at an electronic frequency.
The S and P states of polarization of the mixed-signal are analyzed with a pair of balanced detectors. Our PDR is housed in a compact, hermetically sealed, package with direct electrical connections to its four photodiodes.
A sample and reference signals are first split by a non-polarizing beam-splitter, followed by polarization state splitting by a polarizing beam-splitter. The resulting four channels (S+, S-, P+, and P-) allow polarization diverse detection with common-mode rejection.
