Photonics on the Showroom Floor and in the Lab - LIGHT MATTERS 02.2018
On this month's episode of Light Matters, we take you on a brief tour of the Higgins Laboratories at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Quinsigamond Community College and WPI received a $4M grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to launch a Photonics Academy Lab for Education & Application Prototypes (LEAP); the Higgins Laboratories will be a big part of that. We also take you to the photonics industry's premier event, Photonics West in San Francisco, as over 1,300 companies showed off their latest innovations. And, we introduce you to the 2018 Prism Award winners.

LIGHT MATTERS 02.2018
In this month's Light Matters Extra, we introduce you to Drake Anthony, aka styropyro. Drake, 25, has been building his own lasers since he was 12 years old. He's got quite the following on his YouTube channel where he is known to build giant lasers out of scrap and broken electronics. Drake tells us how he got started in the business and how ESCO Optics is helping him continue to do what he loves. Combining his love for "blowing things up" and his love for science, he recently received his degree in Chemistry at Southern Illinois University.
