Multiview 3-D Photography Simplified Multiview 3-D Photography Simplified
Focii, a device developed by the Camera Culture Group at MIT's Media Lab, can produce a full 20-megapixel multiview 3-D image from a single exposure of a 20-MP sensor. It could rival current light-field cameras, which trade a good deal of resolution for extra-angle information and that cost nearly $400. MIT's system relies on a small rectangle of plastic film printed with a unique checkerboard pattern and inserted beneath the lens of an ordinary digital single-lens-reflex camera. Software does the rest.

Tabletop Device Accelerates Electrons to 2 GeV
The acceleration of electrons to a speed of 2 gigaelectron volts (GeV) over a distance of about 1 inch was accomplished in a tabletop setup at the University of Texas at Austin. Until now, achieving that level of x-ray energy has required a multimillion-dollar accelerator nearly 200 m long.
