SPIE Defense, Security & Sensing 2015

DSS 2015

SPIE’s Defense & Security 2015 brings together thousands of scientists, researchers and company representatives to present the latest technologies and information on optics, imaging and sensing for defense, security, industry, health and the environment.

The annual conference and exhibition, held this year on April 20-24 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland, will feature two symposia on sensing and imaging for commercial and defense applications. The first, Sensing Technology and Applications, will showcase hyperspectral imaging, fiber optic sensors and spectroscopy, as well as terahertz devices and systems, advanced photon counting techniques, sensing for harsh environments, wearable sensors and 3-D imaging.

Featured in the second symposium — Sensors, Imaging and Optics for a Safer World — will be infrared sensors and imaging systems, mine and chemical detection (CBRNE), sensors and command, control, communications and intelligence (C3I), cyber sensing and security, sensor data and information exploitation, imagery and pattern analysis, and more.

Symposium chairs for 2015 are Dr. Nils R. Sandell Jr., director of strategic technology at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA); David A. Logan, vice president of technology solutions at BAE Systems; Wolfgang Schade, of Clausthal University of Technology and Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Germany; and Ming C. Wu, with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley.

Planery speaker Alan R. Shaffer, principal deputy assistant secretary of Defense Research and Engineering for the U.S. Department of Defense, will discuss emerging research and engineering capabilities for next generation warfighters.

The DSS Expo allows companies to highlight products and technologies including robotics and unmanned systems, chemical and biological sensing, infrared detectors and systems, cameras and CCD components, displays, optical components, high-speed imaging and sensing, and law enforcement. Companies such as TRIOPTICS, Raytheon, Xenics, Cobham Mission Systems, FLIR Systems, Jenoptik, Hamamatsu, L-3 Communications, SCHOTT North America, and Umicore will also be represented.
