oxytosis

Oxytosis refers to a form of cell death that is induced by oxidative stress. It is characterized by the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) within cells, leading to oxidative damage and eventual cell death. Oxytosis is distinct from apoptosis (programmed cell death) and necrosis (cell death due to injury or trauma), and it involves specific molecular pathways and mechanisms.

The term oxytosis is often used in the context of neurodegenerative diseases, where oxidative stress plays a significant role in neuronal damage and cell death. Research into oxytosis aims to understand the underlying mechanisms and develop strategies to mitigate oxidative stress and protect cells from damage, potentially offering therapeutic approaches for conditions associated with oxidative stress-induced cell death.
