molybdenum diselenide

Molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) is a dichalcogenide compound composed of molybdenum (Mo) and selenium (Se). It belongs to the family of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), which have garnered significant attention due to their unique electronic, optical, and mechanical properties.

MoSe2 has a layered structure consisting of sheets of molybdenum atoms sandwiched between layers of selenium atoms. Each layer is held together by strong covalent bonds within the layer, while weaker van der Waals forces hold the layers together. This layered structure gives rise to interesting properties, such as being a semiconductor with a direct bandgap in the monolayer form, making it promising for use in electronic and optoelectronic devices.

Due to its tunable electronic properties, MoSe2 has applications in fields such as photovoltaics, catalysis, sensors, and flexible electronics. Researchers are actively exploring its potential in various technological applications, driven by its unique properties and potential for integration into novel devices.
