accessory shoe

An accessory shoe, also known as a hot shoe or cold shoe, is a bracket on cameras and other photographic equipment that allows various accessories to be attached securely. These accessories can include flash units, microphones, electronic viewfinders, and other tools that enhance the functionality of the camera.

Hot shoe:

Function: A hot shoe includes electrical contacts that allow the camera to communicate with the accessory. This is most commonly used for external flash units, enabling the camera to control the flash timing and power.

Features: Often has multiple contact points for advanced communication, such as TTL (through-the-lens) metering and other automated functions.

Cold shoe:

Function: A cold shoe is a simple mounting point without any electrical contacts. It is used to attach accessories that do not require electronic communication with the camera, such as microphones, LED lights, or external viewfinders.
