How to Measure MTF Most Accurately
Why are diffraction limited optics crucial for image quality assessment? Ever wondered what sets the bar for how sharp an image can be? And how imprecise metrology solutions significantly affect measurement results, particularly for MTF and other nonlinear measurands? The answer lies in the fundamental concept of diffraction limited optics.
The measurement of the modulation transfer function (MTF) usually comprises the optics under test and additional measurement or relay optics. Individual aberrations occur in both and interact with each other. As usually the aberrations of the sample under test are unknown, it is impossible to predict their interaction.
In our whitepaper, we show that the theoretical measurement error can increase significantly when using low-quality measuring optics which are not correctly optimized for MTF measurement. We also explain, why it is not possible to correct this measurement error with a correction factor and calibration.
The only way to measure MTF precisely is to use measurement optics that are optimized for MTF measurement. At TRIOPTICS we have many years of experience with MTF measurement and are aware of this issue. Therefore, we use diffraction limited measurement optics that are optimized for accurate MTF measurement.
This gives our customers the confidence that they are getting highest accuracy in image quality measurement to provide consumer-satisfying AR/VR/MR devices.
By using diffraction-limited optics in TRIOPTICS metrology solutions, we empower our customers to offer AR/VR/MR devices with unparalleled image clarity, fostering a truly immersive experience for consumers.
