Bandwidth and CPU Benefits for Imaging

Pleora Technologies - Bandwidth and CPU Benefits for ImagingPleora will be introducing its latest frame grabber, embedded interface, and sensor networking solutions for high-performance imaging at Vision Stuttgart.

The company’s new external frame grabber converts GigE Vision cameras into PCIe cameras and transmits high-bandwidth (up to 22.5 Gbps) imaging and video data over Ethernet cabling directly to a Thunderbolt port on PCs, laptops, embedded, and single-board devices. By eliminating the need for a desktop computer with an available PCIe card slot for a traditional frame grabber, designers can reduce system size, cost, and power consumption by using smaller form factors laptops, embedded computers, and single-board computers.

To optimize CPU usage the external frame grabber’s built-in direct memory access (DMA) engine acquires and copies full image data into the memory of the host PC, freeing valuable processing resources for application tasks while avoiding packet loss. Designers can leverage the cabling and multicasting advantages of GigE Vision imaging solutions for more complex higher-speed applications while taking full advantage of the capabilities of lower cost, smaller form factor CPU platforms for processing, analysis, display, and recording.

In addition to the GigE to PCIe frame grabber Pleora is also introducing a PCIe FPGA IP Core enabling the transmission of video up to 31.5 Gbps using USB4/Thunderbolt 3 cabling and a 25GigE GigE Vision 3.0 embedded interface with RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCEv2) compatibility.

For embedded and sensor applications, Pleora is demonstrating its eBUS Edge software transmitter. The software converts 3D cameras, image sensors and embedded platforms into fully compliant GigE Vision & GenICam devices to enable seamless integration with machine vision processing. eBUS Edge has been designed into 3D and smart cameras and medical data transmission systems.
