The Photonics Spectra Conference
Photonics Spectra
Dec 2021Join industry colleagues to discover the latest trends in lasers, optics, sensors and detectors, and imaging technology during a free, four-day online conference in January.Photonics
Media will host its second
annual
Photonics Spectra
Conference Jan. 10-13. The virtual
event will comprise four technology
tracks — Lasers, Optics, Sensors
and Detectors, and Imaging — each
assigned to its own day.
From left, Manijeh Razeghi, Federico Capasso, Alexis Méndez, Eric R. Fossum
As of press time, the program
features 30 industry-leading speakers
who will present on a wide range of
topics, including the latest advancements
in photonic components and
systems technology, as well as
trending applications spanning laser
materials processing, fiber optic
sensors, detector components for
lidar, scientific imaging, and the
design, fabrication, and metrology
of optical systems.
Keynote Speakers
Manijeh Razeghi is recognized as a
pioneer in the optoelectronic devices at
the heart of the information age and, more
recently, as an authority in the development
of quantum devices operating in
the deep ultraviolet spectral band. Her
keynote brings listeners up to speed
on the mechanics underlying quantum
technology, surveys the state of the art for
quantum applications, and explores where
the technology is headed next.
Federico Capasso, who helped pioneer
the quantum cascade laser, discusses
trends and technologies emerging from
his more recent work in optical metasurfaces.
The metalens technology exploits
the interactions between photons and
matter at the nanometer scale to achieve
unprecedented control of light as it passes
through the bulk of the material. The
resulting technology has commercial applications
in digital imaging, augmented
reality, and 3D sensing.
Alexis Méndez heads a consulting
firm that specializes in optical fiber sening
technology and its application. He
explores the market drivers spurring new
growth and opportunities for the sensors
in biomedical, industrial, aerospace, and
environmental monitoring applications.
Eric R. Fossum is inventor of the
now-ubiquitous CMOS active pixel image
sensor. He shares a brief primer comparing
single-photon avalanche diodes with
CMOS quanta image sensors, followed by
a survey of their comparative merits, their
representative photon counting applications,
and their collective future as the
two technologies show signs of converging.
A preview of the 2022 program assembled

As with the 2021 edition of the
conference, the 2022 event will
feature an all-star lineup of keynote
speakers.
