Powerful LED Illumination for Every Application
CoolLED, a global expert in LED microscopy illumination, is helping scientists reach the full potential of their widefield fluorescence microscopy and optogenetics experiments with its broad range of LED Illumination Systems. 11 products are currently available, which span spectral coverage and control options to offer the best solution for even the most demanding requirements.
Spectral coverage is now more diverse than ever, and one of the most popular options is the pE-300 Series for everyday fluorescence imaging. This provides a broad spectrum of illumination with three LEDs and covers the excitation bands of common fluorophores such as DAPI, CFP, Aqua, FITC, TRITC, TxRed, Cy5 and many more. Single-wavelength Illumination Systems are also available which are ideal for pathology and screening, while the pE-4000 has 16 wavelengths and spans 365 nm to 770 nm for maximum flexibility.
There is also a choice between global white light illumination for simplicity and cost considerations, or Illumination Systems with individual channel control. Advanced LED Illumination Systems which feature individual channel control of LED wavelengths have many benefits in fluorescence imaging, as the system can be set to illuminate only the desired wavelength peaks matching a particular fluorophore’s excitation spectrum, increasing the signal to noise ratio and improving image contrast. This can be further enhanced with excitation filters, and some microscope LED light sources such as the pE-800 Series allow inline excitation filters. This is ideal for high-speed imaging applications, replacing the latency and expense of a filter wheel.
Control is where LED Illumination Systems come into their own, especially with USB connectivity and software integration, which allows the Illumination System to be seamlessly controlled via imaging software for convenience and speed. For high-speed imaging applications, TTL control is vital, with speeds as fast as 7 µs for the highest temporal resolution while minimizing phototoxicity and photobleaching.
These are just some of the different features available, and these can be compared in the useful Product Comparison table available on the CoolLED website. For bespoke requirements, CoolLED technology is also available for OEM customers.
