See the Invisible with SWIR & UV Cameras
Short-wave infrared (SWIR) and ultraviolet (UV) cameras make the invisible visible. They capture images in light ranges that the human eye and typical cameras cannot see, creating new possibilities in industrial applications.
By integrating these capabilities into its proven GigE and USB3 cameras, Balluff has expanded its vision application possibilities to frequency ranges beyond visible light.
For example, UV models can be used to check for defects in the semiconductor sector or to detect different transparent materials. SWIR cameras can be used to inspect fruits and vegetables for bruising or disease, to check the content of opaque containers, or to reveal contaminants in food products, among other tasks.
And the global shutter technology used ensures distortion-free images with moving objects and high image quality through optimum utilization of the pixel area.
While most image processing applications are performed in the visible light range (380 nm - 780 nm), some applications benefit from image capture outside of this range. Balluff’s new camera models utilize the expanded range of Sony Pregius S CMOS sensors with global shutter technology, allowing them to produce high resolution, detailed images from 200 nm (UV range) up to 1700 nm (SWIR range).
The use of the existing GigE, 10 GigE and USB3 camera platforms makes the use of SWIR and UV technology particularly easy. There are no changes to the integration and handling of the cameras compared to previous models. Users also benefit from GigE Vision, USB3 Vision and GenICam compatibility with these SWIR and UV models.
