OZARÓW MAZOWIECKI, Poland — VIGO Photonics, a manufacturer of IR detectors and modules, signed two letters of intent: one with the TELESYSTEM-MESKO S.A. Development and Implementation Center and the other with PCO S.A. The agreements support VIGO Photonics’ strategy to strengthen its presence in the defense sector and build a secure domestic supply chain for the Polish army. The agreement signed with TELESYSTEM-MESKO aims to develop modern optoelectronic solutions in missile and ammunition technology. The company also strengthened its cooperation with PCO by signing a letter of intent aimed at creating new solutions for the Polish army based on photonic integrated circuits. VIGO plans to create a miniaturized solution that will contain an infrared detector, lasers, waveguides, and electronics in a chip the size of a fingertip.

BOSTON — QuEra Computing, a developer of neutral-atom quantum computers, announced an investment from NVentures (NVIDIA's venture capital firm) that expands its $230 million series B round first announced in February. The funding from NVentures follows Google's participation earlier this year and complements QuEra's collaborations with Amazon Web Services. NVIDIA has collaborated with QuEra in the past on a hybrid quantum-classical supercomputer at AIST, a founding collaboration at the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Center, and in AI-powered quantum error decoding.

ÉPALINGES, Switzerland — ORYL Photonics, an EPFL spin-off producing metrology equipment for life science laboratories, closed its series A round backed by existing shareholders. The investment will further accelerate the rollout of the recently launched ORYL F1 platform instrument. The ORYL F1 is a laboratory instrument that disrupts the way solubility and aggregation measurement is performed. The device provides high efficiency and accuracy, and greatly reduces the quantity of required compounds. The company has already received more than CHF 4 million ($5 million) in non-dilutive funding, grants, and awards from various organizations.

LONDON — Electro Optic Systems (EOS), which in August secured what it said was the world’s first export contract for its 100 kW-class high-energy laser weapons (HELW) with a European NATO member state, released the official name of its HELW as Apollo. Scalable to 150 kW, Apollo is being unveiled ahead of DSEI UK (Sept. 9–12), where EOS is showcasing its high-energy laser capabilities as part of Team Defense Australia. Apollo is designed to counter the increasing numbers, fast, and erratic movements of drones by disrupting their sensors at range. The system provides 360°-coverage, including vertical engagements, unlimited shots with external power, and over 200 stored engagements when isolated. It is packaged for mobility, whether containerized or vehicle-mounted. Apollo can be fielded as a stand-alone weapon or integrated into a layered counter-drone defense alongside kinetic effectors such as EOS’ Slinger remote weapon system and missile-based defenses. It is designed to connect with NATO fielded command-and-control and integrated air defense systems.

SAN DIEGO — Advanced Navigation, a provider of assured positioning navigation and timing (APNT) technologies, will expand through the establishment of PNT Centers of Excellence across the U.S. and Europe, beginning in the U.K. The centers will scale the manufacturing, engineering, support, and servicing of its inertial navigation systems for GPS-denied environments. The news follows Advanced Navigation’s launch of the Boreas 50 series, a compact North-seeking fiber-optic gyroscope inertial navigation system, designed to provide resilient, reliable navigation in modern battlefields, and integrates electronic counter-countermeasures for anti-jamming and anti-spoofing in high-threat scenarios. The final U.K. center location will be confirmed later this year, with further global centers confirmed in early 2026. Beyond scaling production, the centers will focus on enabling interoperability across NATO’s land, sea, and air platforms, reducing integration time and cost for member nations.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Syntec Optics received a delinquency notification from Nasdaq due to its failure to file the form 10-Q for June 30, 2025, the 10-K for Dec. 31, 2024, and the 10-Q for March 31, 2025. Nasdaq had previously granted an exception until Aug. 20 for these filings. An additional exception will be allowed for up to 180 days from the due date, extending to Oct. 13. Syntec Optics aims to file the 10-K and the two 10-Qs on Sept. 15.

WÜRENLOS, Switzerland — Eulitha AG said that several Asian VCSEL foundries have adopted its deep ultraviolet patterning platform for 6-in. wafer production. Eulitha has recently shipped multiple systems used in applications ranging from lidar, 3D sensing, data centers, and next-generation optical communications. Eulitha’s platforms enable customers to meet demand for advanced VCSEL arrays. The system's large exposure field covers an entire 6-in wafer in a single shot, reducing stitching errors and enhancing uniformity. The system supports high-throughput production with consistent results across wafers and production batches. These capabilities lead to higher device performance, tighter process control, and reduced cost per die for manufacturers.

HUNSTVILLE, Ala. — ReLogic Research launched ReLogic3D, a distribution and solutions company with the aim of making high-precision 3D scanning technology more accessible to U.S. industries. ReLogic3D is the exclusive U.S. partner of SMARTTECH3D METROLOGY, a European light system company. The partnership aims to provide metrology-grade accuracy and scanning solutions to American customers at scale. ReLogic3D develops scanning and digital engineering tools across various industries, including aerospace, defense, manufacturing, and cultural conservation.

LES ULIS, France — Opton Laser, a supplier of photonics technology, partnered with Telliades, a french startup born out of CNRS, CEA, and the University of Bordeaux that has developed intelligent, ergonomic, and secure viewer for the visualization of infrared laser beams, designed for research centers and industrial users. The beam viewers reduce system alignment time, control beam alignment and centering, and quickly diagnose the surface condition of optics. With the capability to connect to a laptop via Wi-Fi, adjustments and sharing between collaborators are easier. Dangerous direct exposure to the naked eye is avoided which improves laser safety for users.
