IonQ Appoints Board Members: People In The News: 9/10/25

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Sept. 10, 2025 — IonQ, a quantum computing and networking company, appointed Jim Frankola and William J. Teuber Jr. to its board of directors. Frankola served as the chief financial officer of Ariba, Cloudera, and Yodlee. He was an executive at IBM in their storage and software groups. Frankola previously served on the board of simulation software company Ansys, and currently is a board member at Skillsoft, where he chairs the audit committee.

Teuber currently serves as senior operating principal at Bridge Growth Partners, a private equity firm focused on technology. He previously held numerous senior leadership positions at EMC, including vice chairman, chief financial officer, executive vice president, and global head of sales.

Before EMC, Teuber was a partner at Coopers & Lybrand. He served on the board of directors of Popular, Inc., the holding company of Banco Popular of Puerto Rico, for 15 years. In addition, he served as a member of the board of directors and as the lead independent director at Inovalon Holdings, a healthcare technology company, before its sale to a group of private equity investors in 2021. Teuber currently serves on the board of directors at Senga, a technology-enabled logistics start-up.

REDMOND, Wash. — MicroVision, Inc. appointed Glen DeVos as CEO and member of the company's board effective Sept. 30. Sumit Sharma, MicroVision’s current CEO, will remain in the role through the effective date to ensure a smooth transition. DeVos previously served as Aptiv's chief technology officer and president of the advanced safety and user experience business unit. DeVos joined MicroVision in 2025 as chief technology officer.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Vuzix Corporation, a supplier of smart glasses and AR technology, appointed Chris Parkinson as president of enterprise solutions at Vuzix. Parkinson previously served as chief technology officer at Realwear, and later as CEO, guiding the company through fundraising, international expansion, and strategic acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he contributed to wearable and distributed computing platforms at Kopin Corporation, Alien Technology, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Parkinson will oversee Vuzix's enterprise product portfolio and go-to-market strategy, including the total customer solution, sales, strategic partnerships, customer adoption, and global channel expansion.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — FUJIFILM Biotechnologies appointed Samuel Hernandez as senior vice president and site head for its College Station, Texas facility. Hernandez has over two decades of biotechnology and pharmaceutical leadership experience. The previous site head, Keita Hirabayashi, has been appointed to the position of senior director, corporate office, and board member of the Texas site. Hernandez recently served as executive director and head of global manufacturing strategies and technologies at Amgen. During his tenure at Amgen, Hernandez successfully introduced products and partnerships, including the manufacturing of a COVID-19 neutralizing antibody therapy. As senior vice president and site head, Hernandez will oversee Texas site strategy, operations, and talent development.

TEMPE, Ariz. — Benchmark Electronics Inc., a provider of product design, engineering services, technology solutions, and advanced manufacturing services, announced president and CEO Jeff Benck’s intention to retire effective March 31, 2026. Benck became CEO in 2019 and guided Benchmark through a period of strategic transformation and growth. Under his leadership, the company has accelerated its innovation agenda, expanded engineering capabilities, and introduced advanced manufacturing practices that enhanced execution and scalability.

David Moezidis, the current executive vice president and chief commercial officer, will succeed Benck as CEO effective March 31, 2026. Over his 35-year career, Moezidis spent 25 years at Flex, where he served as the president of the lifestyle solutions group, and prior to that as the senior vice president of the industrial and energy group.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Silvaco, a provider of TCAD, EDA software, and SIP solutions for semiconductor design, appointed Chris Zegarelli as chief financial officer, effective September 15, 2025. Zegarelli will be reporting to CEO Walden Rhines. Zegarelli has over 20 years of leadership experience in the semiconductor industry. He has expertise in investor relations, financing, financial reporting, forecasting, M&A, operations, and strategic planning. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of finance at Infineon Technologies, where he led integration and strategic planning following its $830M acquisition of GaN Systems, where he had been CFO. His earlier experience includes CFO roles at Thermal Engineering International and Indie Semiconductor. Prior to that, he held senior finance roles at Broadcom and Qualcomm.

KIDLINGTON, England — OptoWeld, a laser welding equipment manufacturer, appointed Jordan Lavender as technical sales manager. Lavender holds experience in sales, marketing, and strategy. Lavender will help to expand the company's presence and accelerate the adoption of laser welding solutions in the U.K.

SAINT-EGRÈVE, France — Teledyne e2v, an industrial microelectronics company, appointed David Hien as vice president and general manager of its semiconductor division. Hien has more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, notably at Texas Instruments and EGIDE. He will be responsible for managing the semiconductors business from the Saint-Egrève site, with the aim of accelerating innovation projects, strengthening industrial partnerships, and consolidating Teledyne e2v's position in the aerospace, defense, and industrial markets.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Simon Thibault, a professor at Université Laval, will become the editor of the SPIE Field Guide series, effective Jan. 1. He will succeed the current Series Editor, J. Scott Tyo, who has held the role since 2020. The SPIE Field Guide series includes definitions, equations, methods, applications, and design considerations required for the lab and in the field for engineers or scientists. At Université Laval, Thibault is the director of the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Optics, a faculty member of the Center for Optics, Photonics, and Lasers, and serves as a researcher in optical design. In addition, Thibault holds the NSERC industrial research chair in optical design, a role he has held since 2008. He leads the university’s optical engineering research lab as well as the Advanced Optical Fabrication Infrastructure program. Thibault has designed and built more than 200 optical systems, ranging from space astronomical optical systems to miniature cell phone camera modules and medical endoscopes. He is the author and co-author of more than 30 patents, and over 300 conference presentations and journal articles, including plenaries, keynotes, and invited talks. An SPIE Fellow since 2018, Thibault has been involved in multiple SPIE conferences, including Optics + Photonics and Optical Systems Design and has been an associate editor for the SPIE journal Optical Engineering.

ISHØJ, Denmark — Windar Photonics, a company that specializes in lidar-assisted monitoring and optimization solutions for multiple wind turbine platforms, appointed Martin McLaron as vice president of sales for the Americas, which follows the appointment of Birol Yosul as vice president of sales for Europe last month. McLaron brings 15 years of experience in the renewable energy sector across the Americas. He has held several senior leadership roles in wind energy, involved in construction, operations, maintenance, and reliability engineering. His previous experience includes sales/business development and project management roles across the wind sector at ONYX InSight, Workrise, RES Americas, and GE Power.
