Photonics Media Senior Editor Joe Kuczynski Takes Neal Award for Best Range of Work

May 2025PITTSFIELD, Mass., May 23, 2025 — Photonics Media, the leading publisher dedicated to the photonics industry, is proud to announce that senior editor Joe Kuczynski has won a 2025 Neal Award for his work in creating video, print, online, and audio content. Kuczynski received his award at the 71st Jesse H. Neal Awards luncheon held May 16 in New York.

The Neal Awards honor the brightest, most tenacious, and innovative journalists, content creators, and designers for their passion and exceptional work. Kuczynski earned the award in the category “Best Range of Work by a Single Author.”

“This award is a great credit to the entire Photonics Media team. I am grateful to be surrounded by such a talented and supportive staff,” Kuczynski said. “It is a privilege to tell the stories that spotlight the profound progress taking place throughout the photonics industry. In addition to Kuczynski’s award, Photonics Media senior editor Douglas Farmer earned a finalist nomination in the category of “Best Single Article” for his feature “AI Accelerates Skin Lesion Identification.”

Kuczynski was one of 63 winners in 2025. The award-winning portfolio included two Photonics Spectra magazine feature articles; video compilations from Photonics Spectra Now, a weekly newscast providing quick-hit coverage of leading stories in the optics and photonics industries; and “All Things Photonics” podcast selections. The feature articles debuted in the October 2024 and December 2024 issues of Photonics Spectra.

Kuczynski joined Photonics Media as a senior editor in 2024 after more than 16 years covering local news on the East Coast of the U.S. An Emmy-nominated video journalist, reporter, and producer, he leads Photonics Media’s video department and performs editorial duties supporting Photonics Spectra.
