SHREWSBURY, Mass., Nov. 4, 2025 — Precision motion control and nanopositioning technology maker PI (Physik Instrumente) has moved into an expanded U.S. headquarters and manufacturing facility in Shrewsbury, Mass. The location strengthens PI’s U.S. production, engineering, and customer support capabilities across industries such as photonics, semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace, and life science.

“Over the past five years, annual sales of PI USA have grown by more than 10%. At the same time, PI’s production in the USA increased by 30 to 50% each year,” said Markus Spanner, CEO of the PI Group. “With this new production facility, we lay the foundation to meet the growing demands of the American markets. At the same time, by continuously increasing our local production, we further reduce lead times and provide even more flexibility to support our American customers.”

The ~140,000 sq ft facility offers three times the aggregated space of PI's locations in Auburn, Mass., Hopkinton, Mass., and Nashua, N.H. The site features upgraded production, service and metrology areas, cleanroom environments, and expanded demo and training spaces. Production activities at the location will focus on precision motion and automation systems, air bearings, and piezoelectric transducers and nanopositioning components for industrial applications. In addition to strengthening manufacturing capabilities, the site will help to reduce the impact of import tariffs, improve supply stability, and enhance local customer support.

Last year, the company expanded its footprint in Germany, with the opening of a production facility in Eschbach, and the addition of electronics production space at its site in Rosenheim.
