Optica and the IEEE Photonics Society named Graham Reed, professor at the University of Southampton, the 2026 John Tyndall Award Recipient. The John Tyndall award recognizes an individual who has made technical or leadership contributions to fiber optic technology. Reed is recognized for his contributions to silicon photonics, including pioneering research, advocacy, and the establishment of a widely accessible foundry platform. Corning Incorporated, a materials science company, sponsors the award as part of its commitment to fiber optic technology innovation.

BARRINGTON, N.J. — Edmund Optics appointed Edward Manley CFO. Manley has held senior finance roles at Zoll Medical, Tyco International, Brooks Instrument, American Standard, and Vyaire Medical. The company additionally promoted Jeff Harvey to COO. Harvey has served at Edmund for 25 years, previously served as executive vice president of operations. Finally, Todd Sierer will rejoin the company as president of Edmund Optics’ Marketplace business. Sierer served as vice president of sales and marketing at Nelson Labs and, most recently, as vice president of global sales at Quantum Machines.

SILVERWATER, Australia — BluGlass, a semiconductor manufacturing company, appointed Jim Haden executive director, replacing non-executive director Jean Michel Pelaprat. Haden has held senior leadership positions at companies including Kyocera SLD, nLight, Coherent, and JDS Uniphase.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — OpenLight, a photonic chip designer and manufacturer, appointed Natalija Filipovic director of marketing and sales operations. Filipovic has more than 30 years of experience in the photonics industry, most recently serving senior manager of marketing and communications at Lumentum. The move follows OpenLight’s Series A funding, in August.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Laser Photonics appointed Frank Cook vice president of its Beamer sales team. Cook has more than 25 years of sales experience across medical devices, laser equipment, and technical procurement. He previously held sales positions at Surgical Direct and Boss Laser. Laser Photonics also made several new hires to/on its sales team.

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Kopin Corporation promoted Bill Maffucci to senior vice president of product development and strategy. Maffucci, who joined Kopin in 2015, served on the leadership team for Intevac Photonics after it acquired Creative Display Systems, a company that he co-founded. Additionally, Iwan Dodd was appointed senior vice president of business development. Dodd returns to Kopin after serving as global head of business development at Luminar Semiconductor.

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — IDEX Corporation appointed Sean Gillen senior vice president and CFO, replacing Akhil Mahendra, who has served as interim CFO since May 2025, and will return to his role as vice president of corporate development. Gillen previously served as CFO of AAR, a provider of aviation services. Before AAR, he was vice president and treasurer of USG, a building material manufacturing company. IDEX also announced that senior vice president and chief human resources officer Melissa Flores will be leaving IDEX.

SYDNEY — Diamond-based quantum technology company Quantum Brilliance appointed Brian Wong independent board chair. Wong has more than 40 years of experience in the semiconductor sector, including as a CEO and in other C-level roles at private at public companies. He has served as an independent board director at eight technology companies and multiple non-profits.

BILLERICA, Mass. — Bruker added Jack Phillips to its board of directors. Phillips is a senior healthcare industry executive with more than 30 years of leadership experience in the diagnostics industry. He served as president and CEO of Accelerate Diagnostics and as president and CEO of Roche Diagnostics North America.
