Videantis Secures Funding, Automotive Systems Collaboration

Videantis GmbH, a deep learning, computer vision, and video processor intellectual property provider, will collaborate with ADTechnology Co. Ltd., an application specific integrated circuit design services and turnkey solutions provider, to build automotive systems on chips (SoCs) for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. The collaborators will use Samsung Foundry’s advanced 5-nm process for their designs.

The collaboration aims to deliver a scalable and customizable SoC platform that targets the full range of automotive processing requirements. From smart edge sensor data processing in decentralized vehicle architectures to high-performance compute systems in domain and central processing units, the SoC platform will target ADAS and autonomous driving applications up to Society of Automotive Engineers, Level 4.

In contrast to other SoCs addressing this market, the videantis v-MP6000UDX unified processing platform renders separate specialized cores for AI, vision, signal processing, graphics, or video coding obsolete. According to the company, this radically cuts down overall SoC complexity and at the same time boosts flexibility to support diverse automotive use cases at equally high silicon utilization.

The SoC platform, combining videantis’ v-MP6000UDX processing subsystem and automotive processors licensed from Arm, yields simplified, highly cost-effective single-chip solutions for ADAS/AD without the need for companion chips.

ADTechnology currently operates as Samsung Foundry’s design solution partner. Through the collaboration, according to videantis CEO and CTO Hans-Joachim Stolberg, videantis — working also with Arm and Samsung Foundry — will have access to Samsung Foundry’s volume production capacities.

First products resulting from this collaboration are targeting vehicles with start of production 2025 and onward.

The formation of the collaboration follows videantis’ completion of a multimillion euro funding round, announced last month, to accelerate its growth path. Following its announcement of the funding round, the company said it planned to use the funds to capture new business opportunities arising from the changing automotive supply chain landscape.

computer vision
Computer vision enables computers to interpret and make decisions based on visual data, such as images and videos. It involves the development of algorithms, techniques, and systems that enable machines to gain an understanding of the visual world, similar to how humans perceive and interpret visual information. Key aspects and tasks within computer vision include: Image recognition: Identifying and categorizing objects, scenes, or patterns within images. This involves training...
