VISION Show, Leading Trade Fair for Machine Vision, Returns to Stuttgart

Machine vision professionals from around the world will gather at Messe Stuttgart in Germany next week for the return of the VISION Show, Oct. 5-7. The biennial show was canceled in 2020.

“As the world’s leading trade fair has not taken place for three years, we are looking forward to a ‘coming home’ atmosphere,” VISION project manager Florian Niethammer told Photonics Media. The event will highlight the latest trends and topics in machine vision, including hyperspectral imaging, robot vision, and embedded vision.

Participants can look forward to a conference and exhibit program featuring novel solutions, ideas, and perspectives, Niethammer said.

Exhibition areas for the show will span systems and components, applications, and services. Systems and components will include cameras, machine vision software, and sensors. Applications, such as optical character recognition (OCR), print inspection, and 2D and 3D robot vision, will be showcased. Consulting, training, and specialist literature will be among the services offered at the event.

The exhibition will reflect current and emerging dynamics of the industry market, ranging from emerging players focused on automation technology to expanded companies and the newly formed company constellations — such as the TKH Group and the Teledyne Imaging group of companies — that were forged by recent mergers and acquisitions, he said.

Together with VDMA (The Mechanical Engineering Industry Association), organizers are planning the return of Industrial VISION Days, a forum in which live presenters feature innovations, trends, and new products from the machine vision industry. The forum will be streamed live and offered on demand for the first time.

The VISION Award, which recognizes the top innovations in the field of machine vision, will also be presented live onstage. The winner will be announced by a jury of industry experts.

New companies at the event include those participating in the premiere of VISION Start-up World, which will highlight approaches and innovations in camera technologies, artificial intelligence and deep learning software, and advanced image processing systems, Niethammer said. Visitors can also look forward to speaking with systems integrators and solutions providers, who will present their products and services for various application markets in the show’s Integration Area.

The trade fairs Motek and parts2clean are also new this year, and will run concurrently to the VISION Show. Participants in both guest trade fairs will have the opportunity to visit the VISION show free of charge.

machine vision
Machine vision, also known as computer vision or computer sight, refers to the technology that enables machines, typically computers, to interpret and understand visual information from the world, much like the human visual system. It involves the development and application of algorithms and systems that allow machines to acquire, process, analyze, and make decisions based on visual data. Key aspects of machine vision include: Image acquisition: Machine vision systems use various...
