Thorlabs has named Bruno Gross executive vice president of global business. Gross will continue to lead the organization’s European’s entities located in Germany, the U.K., Sweden, and France, while holding responsibility for the alignment of the organization’s global sales, technical support, marketing, and distribution functions. Bruno Gross. Courtesy of Thorlabs. Gross earned a Ph.D. in Quantum Optics from the Ludwig Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München while working in the lab of Theodore Hänsch. Prior to joining Thorlabs as general manager of Germany in 2017, Gross served as a consultant for McKinsey & Co. prior to joining Menlo Systems GmbH, and served as an executive director at the Goethe-Institut. At Thorlabs, he was promoted to vice president of Europe in 2022. Gross was appointed as a member of Photonics Media’s Editorial Advisory Board last year. According to Jenn Cable, president of Thorlabs, Gross’ appointment to the role of executive vice president of global business marks a shift in the company’s focus, moving from a regional to a global perspective to better meet the needs of customers. The company, Gross added, plans to expand its range of custom and OEM solutions to meet the needs of business customers moving forward. *This story has been updated.
