Siemens and TRUMPF Partner on AI for Manufacturing

Siemens and TRUMPF have established a partnership to elevate industrial production by harnessing advanced digital manufacturing solutions. The collaboration reportedly joins Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio with TRUMPF’s machine-building and software expertise, and builds on regular exchanges among development teams at Siemens and TRUMPF.

According to the companies, the partnership addresses a critical challenge in modern manufacturing, the disconnect between information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems which has historically hindered production efficiency and innovation. Leveraging Siemens’ Xcelerator portfolio and TRUMPF’s manufacturing expertise, the collaboration seeks to deliver comprehensive solutions bridging this gap. Both companies are working on open and interoperable IT interfaces that will help to advance AI readiness for motion control applications.

“Real transformation in a factory begins when machines on the shop floor are connected through a shared digital backbone — so that data flows seamlessly, decisions happen faster, and production responds to changing conditions,” said Cedrik Neike, member of the managing board at Siemens AG and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries.

The collaboration will also deliver tangible customer benefits through modular system architecture and unified system solutions, the companies said. Standardized interfaces will allow for seamless connectivity between shop floor equipment and enterprise-level systems. Customers will benefit from increased operational efficiency, reduced engineering costs, and future-proof scalability by using open, modular automation solutions, the companies said. These are critical to ensure future-proof AI readiness, that will permit customers to achieve faster time-to-market, improved production flexibility, and competitive manufacturing operations.

TRUMPF has advanced considerably on its adoption of AI, though the company has applied it largely to its laser techniques and applications. The company is deploying machine learning to enhance laser beam characterization, and partnered last summer with SiMa.ai to equip TRUMPF laser systems with AI technology.
