Scantinel Photonics Files for Insolvency
ULM, Germany, Aug. 12, 2025 — Scantinel Photonics, a developer of frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) lidar technology for mobility and industrial applications, has filed for insolvency. The insolvency administration division of PLUTA Rechtsanwalts GmbH, a management firm specializing in company restructuring and insolvency administration, announced on Aug. 8 that the company is seeking an investor. The company's operations continue.
According to a PLUTA press release, the District Court of Ulm, Germany ordered provisional insolvency administration last week, as Scantinel works to overcome liquidity problems. "Due to the crisis in the European automotive industry and the associated delay in the introduction of autonomous mobility, a planned (series B) financing round did not materialize," PLUTA said. Scantinel, as a result, has temporarily suspended development of its sensor technology for autonomous vehicles.
The provider of FMCW lidar technology for autonomous vehicles and robotics previously raised a $10.5 million extended series A round in 2022, in a round backed by PhotonDelta as well as Scania Growth Capital and ZEISS Ventures. The company unveiled its FMCW photonic scanner-detector chip, based on standard CMOS technology, last summer, and said at the time that it planned to make samples available for customers in the fourth quarter of 2024. Scantinel was an SPIE PRISM Award finalist in 2024 and 2025. The company won a PRISM Award for its narrow linewidth hybrid-integrated laser this year.
Scantinel employs around 50 people. The company was founded in 2019 and is based in Ulm.
