Lightsynq Emerges from Stealth with $18M Series A

BOSTON, Nov. 21, 2024 — Lightsynq, a startup developing optical interconnect technology, has raised approximately $18 million in a Series A funding round. Founded by former Harvard quantum networking experts and research leads from Amazon Web Services Center for Quantum Networking, LightSynq is developing optical quantum interconnects that enable hardware providers to link quantum processors. Lightsynq plans to use the funds to build prototypes of its quantum interconnects which it plans to use to help leading quantum computing companies scale to multimodule systems. Lightsynq’s quantum interconnect...Read full article

    Glossary
    quantum
The term quantum refers to the fundamental unit or discrete amount of a physical quantity involved in interactions at the atomic and subatomic scales. It originates from quantum theory, a branch of physics that emerged in the early 20th century to explain phenomena observed on very small scales, where classical physics fails to provide accurate explanations. In the context of quantum theory, several key concepts are associated with the term quantum: Quantum mechanics: This is the branch of...
    stealth
That characteristic which makes a weapon system less visible to radar, optical, acousto-optic, infrared and other military sensors.
    color center
A color center, in the context of materials science and condensed matter physics, refers to a specific type of crystallographic defect in a crystalline structure that introduces color to the material. These defects are often responsible for imparting color to certain crystals, and they can have unique optical and electronic properties. Key points about color centers: Formation: Color centers typically form when a foreign atom or a vacancy (missing atom) is introduced into the crystal...
