Laser Energetics Inc. of Mercerville, N.J., has begun discussions with several medical and dental instrument suppliers regarding the integration of its BrightStar alexandrite lasers into medical and dental products. The short fundamental tunable laser output and fiber optic beam delivery system make the lasers suitable for photoacoustic imaging to detect cancer, for photodynamic therapy to treat cancer, for hair removal, for tattoo removal, for spider vein treatment, for ophthalmic applications and for blood clot detection. The laser may be employed for dental applications, including cleaning and low-trauma tooth decay treatment.
