AI-powered Diagnostic Imaging Tool Estimates Hemoglobin Levels

A collaboration between SigTuple Technologies and the Indian Institute of Science demonstrated an AI-powered, imaging-based tool for the estimation of hemoglobin levels. The setup combines a microfluidic chip and an AI-enabled microscope designed for deriving the total, as well as differential counts, of blood cells. Existing hematology analyzers and many medical devices for multiparameter assessment often have dedicated subcompartments with separate optical detection systems. This design tends to require greater sample volumes and can drive up the cost of the equipment as a whole. The...Read full article

    Glossary
    reagent
A reagent is a substance or compound that is used in a chemical reaction to bring about a specific transformation or to detect the presence or absence of another substance. Reagents are employed in various laboratory procedures, including chemical analyses, organic synthesis, biochemical assays, and diagnostic tests. Reagents can be classified into different categories based on their function or role in a reaction: Reactants: These are substances that are consumed in a chemical reaction to...
    microfluidics
Microfluidics is a multidisciplinary field that involves the manipulation and control of very small fluid volumes, typically in the microliter (10-6 liters) to picoliter (10-12 liters) range, within channels or devices with dimensions on the microscale. It integrates principles from physics, chemistry, engineering, and biotechnology to design and fabricate systems that handle and analyze fluids at the micro level. Key features and aspects of microfluidics include: Miniaturization:...
