TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 11 -- Raytheon Co. announced today it was awarded a $45.5 million contract for the US Air Force's fiscal year 2005 procurement of Paveway II laser-guided bomb kits.

Paveway precision-guided bombs, used in tactical air-to-ground warfare, were the most widely used precision munition in Operation Iraqi Freedom and were first used by the UK Royal Air Forcein in the Falklands in 1982. Raytheon also produces the Enhanced Paveway II, which combines the laser guidance system with a global positioning system-aided inertial navigation system.
