Qualcomm Purchases Alphawave Semi to Accelerate Data Center Expansion
Qualcomm has reached an agreement to acquire data communications company Alphawave Semi in a deal worth $2.4 billion. The acquisition aims to accelerate and provide key assets for Qualcomm’s expansion into data centers, Qualcomm said. The transaction is expected to close in early 2026.
Alphawave Semi develops and provides high-speed wired connectivity and compute technologies delivering custom intellectual property, silicon, connectivity products, and chiplets that enable fast and reliable data transfer with lower power consumption. Alphawave Semi introduced a portfolio of optoelectronics products earlier this year which address data center and AI infrastructure. Its technologies complement Qualcomm's Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors, which are geared toward high-performance low-power computing driven by AI and the transition to custom CPUs in data centers.
