QED Technologies Acquires Dutch United Instruments
Precision optics manufacturing solutions company QED Technologies has acquired Dutch United Instruments (DUI), a Netherlands-based metrology company. The acquisition of the former Demcon subsidiary adds DUI’s Nanomefos metrology platform to QED's portfolio. The move additionally establishes a European headquarters for QED Technologies.
Nanomefos’ capabilities for rapid, nanometer-accurate measurement of complex surfaces complement QED’s existing technologies, including magnetorheological finishing and sub-aperture stitching interferometry. The addition of the non-contact metrology platform for freeform and aspheric optics also supplements QED’s existing expertise in optical manufacturing and supports the company’s long-term growth strategy, the company said, in a press release.
“Bringing Nanomefos — and more importantly, DUI — into our portfolio underscores QED’s commitment to innovation and the strategic growth of our metrology capabilities,” said QED president and CEO Michael Mohammadi. “With the Netherlands as a global hub for high-tech advancement, our new European HQ strengthens our position in optics and semiconductors.”
DUI was founded as a spin-off of the Dutch research institute TNO. As part of QED Technologies, DUI and its customers will have access to QED’s global service and support infrastructure, including its network of field service engineers, applications experts, and regional offices, as well as QED’s global distribution capabilities, said the company.
Last month, QED revealed plans to invest $18.7 million to expand its operations in Rochester, N.Y.
