PerkinElmer Inc. of Wellesley, Mass., has purchased the assets of Spectral Genomics Inc., a molecular karyotyping technology company in Houston. The acquisition includes products and analysis software that enable researchers to evaluate chromosomal abnormalities related to the study of cancer and pre- and postnatal genetic disorders. The Array CGH (comparative genome hybridization) technology identifies the locations of chromosomal deletions and amplifications that indicate an increased risk of genetic disease by providing a high-resolution global view of the human genome. PerkinElmer will use the additions to its product line to complement its molecular medicine and genetic screening offerings.
