MBRYONICS has opened a manufacturing facility in Dangan, Ireland. The site will manufacture the company's flagship optical communications terminal product at an initial capacity of 500 units per year. Courtesy of MBRYONICS.
The facility, the company said, builds on the more than 10-year partnership between MBRYONICS, the European Space Agency, and Ireland’s ESA Delegation. The Photon-1 New Product Introduction facility integrates design, manufacturing, and testing capabilities under one roof, enabling the rapid and scalable deployment of advanced optical communication terminals for satellite constellations.

Photon-1's opening, the company said, marks MBRYONICS' transition from R&D to large-scale production, with future expansion planned in the western region and internationally to serve major programs, such as the EU’s IRIS² constellation, as well as their international public and private customers. The site will manufacture MBRYONICS’s flagship optical communications terminal product, StarCom, with an initial capacity of 500 units a year.

Glossary
optical communications
Optical communications is a branch of photonics concerned with transmitting information using light as the carrier signal. In these systems, data is generated, modulated, transmitted, and detected through guided or unguided media such as optical fibers or free space. Light sources such as lasers or LEDs, along with optical amplifiers, modulators, and photodetectors, form the core components of these systems. Optical communication networks form the foundation of modern high-speed data...
