Jasper Stackawitz Awarded 2025 Teddi C. Laurin Scholarship
BELLINGHAM, Wash., May 28, 2025 — Jasper Stackawitz has been awarded the 2025 Teddi C. Laurin Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for potential contributions to optics, photonics, or a related field.
Stackawitz is a junior at Pennsbury High School in Fairless Hills, Pa. He began his research in photonics at Ursinus College with Casey Schwarz, Ph.D., focusing on the fabrication and properties of thin Sb2Se3 and Ge2Sb2Te5 films and their potential applications in imaging technologies. This summer, he will dive deeper into the properties of such optical phase-change materials through a nanophotonics project he is leading at Stony Brook University’s Garcia Center for Polymers at Engineered Interfaces.

Photonics Media partners with SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, to fund the Teddi C. Laurin Scholarship to raise awareness of optics and photonics, and to foster growth and success in the photonics industry by supporting students involved in photonics. The scholarship is awarded yearly in memory of Teddi C. Laurin, the founder of Laurin Publishing and Photonics Media.
