The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) will establish an “Optics and Photonics Centre” to foster education, R&D, and innovation. The center will focus on doctoral and postgraduate programs, including specialized programs for industry professionals. The Optics and Photonics Centre, IIT Delhi will seek to undertake research with establishments such as the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Department of Atomic Energy, the Indian Council of Medical Research, and private industry. “As the spread of photonic technology and its usage is increasing, there would be many opportunities for such collaborations including setting up of startups,” said Joby Joseph, coordinator of the center and professor of optoelectronics and optical communication. “Apart from this, the center will play a pivotal role in the near-future development of photonics-based quantum technologies, for next-generation computing, secure communications, etc. Sustained linkages with industry will also be developed and established.”
