GlobalFoundries Adds InfiniLink to Portfolio
MALTA, N.Y., Nov. 26, 2025 — GlobalFoundries (GF) plans to acquire InfiniLink, a startup specialized in advanced optical data connectivity chips, based in Cairo, Egypt. This follows last week’s acquisition of Taiwan-based Advanced Micro Foundry (AMF). These moves strengthen the company’s position in silicon photonics — an area poised for rapid growth amid growing needs for higher bandwidth and improved energy efficiency in datacenters.
InfiniLink is a design-focused company with deep expertise in connectivity chips. Founded in 2022, InfiniLink develops silicon photonics integrated optical transceiver chiplets (iOTC) technology, featured in the company’s iOTC-G1 product, an optical transceiver engine optimized for low power ethernet and PCIe linear pluggable optical modules. The company has additionally developed patent pending photonics modulator architectures and integrated wavelength division multiplexers and demultiplexers.
The strategic acquisitions of InfiniLink and AMF strengthen GF’s established silicon photonics business and accelerate the technology’s path to commercialization. GF said it has a multi-year roadmap for pluggables and co-packaged optics that increases bandwidth while reducing the pJ/bit for high-speed data transmission. The company also expects the acquisitions to accelerate growth into adjacent applications, including sensing and LiDAR for physical AI, industrial and automotive markets, and emerging quantum systems, supported by broader technology and packaging toolkits.
