Credo Expands Portfolio, Acquires Hyperlume

Connectivity solutions developer and provider Credo has acquired Hyperlume, a developer of micro-LED-based optical interconnect technology for chip-to-chip communication. The acquisition expands Credo's portfolio of end-to-end system-level connectivity solutions targeting AI-driven data infrastructure deployments.

“The acquisition of Hyperlume extends our innovative system-level connectivity solutions that spans diverse physical mediums, distances, and protocols to deliver optimized solutions to meet each customer’s needs,” said Bill Brennan, president and CEO of Credo. According to Brennan, micro-LED technology aligns with Credo's mission to innovate and advance high-speed connectivity by enabling faster, more reliable, more energy-efficient, and scalable solutions for the AI era. Micro-LED technology is emerging as a next-generation optical technology for data center interconnects, bringing the high-speed, energy-efficiency and low-latency data transmission required for scaling massive AI clusters, according to Credo.

Hyperlume’s technology uses ultra-fast micro-LEDs and ultra-low power circuitry to overcome the energy and bandwidth bottlenecks inherent in traditional electronic interconnects. The addition of the technology into Credo’s existing offerings, Credo said, will provide customers with novel options for scaling up AI networks.

Hyperlume, an Ottawa, Ontario-based company founded in 2022, completed a $12.5 million financing round in February.
