AMETEK Acquires Navitar, RTDS Technologies

AMETEK has added to its photonics portfolio through its acquisition of Navitar Inc., the Rochester, N.Y.-based provider of advanced optical components and solutions for high-precision applications. Navitar’s optical solutions serve critical applications in medical and life sciences, machine vision and robotics, industrial automation, and other end markets.

AMETEK also acquired RTDS Technologies Inc., a provider of real-time power simulation systems that is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The combined acquisition price for both companies was $430 million. With the companies, AMETEK acquires approximately $100 million in annual sales. Both acquired companies join AMETEK as part of its electronic instruments group. The segment develops analytical, monitoring, testing, calibrating, and display instrumentation.

The deals follow AMETEK’s December 2021 acquisition of Alphasense — a provider of gas and particulate sensors for use in environmental, health and safety, and air-quality applications — that also joined AMETEK’s electronic instruments group. Also last year, Micro-LAM — a manufacturer of laser-assisted systems for ultraprecision machining, joined three business units in AMETEK’s ultra-precision technology group to form the Precision Advancement Center of Excellence (PACE) in the United Kingdom.
